Luohu, also written Lo Wu or Lowu, is the area that connects Shenzhen with Hong Kong. There is an immigration checkpoint, so you can cross straight over into Hong Kong. That is why some people apparently base themselves in Shenzhen and make day trips to Hong Kong. The other way round, there are also people from Hong Kong who come over to Shenzhen on weekends, where prices are cheaper, to hang out..
In a way Shenzhen’s growth owes a lot to Hong Kong, and Luohu was the first part of Shenzhen to develop. It is still busy with people going back and forth.

Luohu is the end of Line 1. You just ride Line 1 to the last stop. My hotel was in Zhuzilin, so it took about 40 minutes.

They say this used to be quite a bustling district, but now it feels past its prime. A bit like Dongdaemun or Namdaemun Market, I suppose..

It is a bit cramped and there is not much here. Seems like they sell a lot of knock-offs.. It may have been famous once, but there is not much to it now..

I just had a casual look around and went back, but it made me think that next time I should set aside some time and go over to Hong Kong. Having flown all the way to Shenzhen, it only makes sense to kill two birds with one stone..
