Sukdal, a Korean Restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Sukdal is an upscale Korean restaurant. The Korean restaurants so far were upscale too, but this one feels like it’s a notch above. For one thing, it’s right in the city.

The place

Even the design feels refined.

Private rooms

The first floor is an open space, and the second floor has a whole row of private rooms.

Beolgyo cockles

I wonder how they manage to serve Beolgyo cockles in Cambodia.

Table setting

There is a grill, but they can also cook the meat outside and bring it in. Looks like you get to choose. When there are a lot of people, it’s easier to just eat what’s been grilled for you.

Side dishes

They use brassware too..

Mul-kimchi

This one tasted a bit off, so I asked them to take it away. I suspect the tap water wasn’t being handled well..

Fried chili peppers

These were decent.

There’s seaweed too.

I can’t tell the difference from Korea.

Mussel soup

Nice and spicy.

Meat

They showed it to us so we could take a photo. Then they grill it and bring it back.

Nicely grilled

Naturally, it’s delicious.

Meat

Well.. there’s no way hanwoo could taste bad..

Grilled rice cakes

These were a treat too. The pineapple was a stroke of genius..

Rice

They say the rice is brought over from Korea too.

Webfoot octopus

Honestly it tasted great, but we ordered way too much..

Seafood sundubu

Delicious.

Pork galbi

Sweet and tasty.

Nurungji

Rice, and then nurungji on top of that.. perfectly Korean style.

Braised mackerel

I ate until I was about to burst..

Sukdal

The prices seem a bit higher than in Korea.. but a fancy hanjeongsik place in Korea gets expensive too, so I guess it’s about the same.

First floor

This is the atmosphere.

Aged kimchi

Looks like the kimchi is flown in from Korea too.

Rice

The rice is flown in from Korea as well. It made me wonder if you have to go this far with the ingredients to make the business work.
