Taffin was a bakery I’d been meaning to visit for ages, and I’d planned to stop by on my way to Namdaemun, but I heard it wasn’t open, so I gave up. Then somehow, on the way from Namdaemun to Itaewon, I stumbled on a newly opened bakery, and it turned out to be this place.
On the way
It’s an area where you can see Namsan Tower up close.
The place
Honestly, I was a bit surprised. I was just wandering along without a thought in my head when I came across a bakery that was about to open, and the day I visited it was actually still in its soft opening.
Entrance
I thought it was under construction, but you could go right in. What are the odds of a coincidence like this..
Breads
These look perfect for sandwiches.
Breads
At this level, I’d call it one of the best in the country..
Baguette
The baguettes seemed world-class. Not the baguette blanche, but the baguette tradition.
Baked goods
These all looked top quality too.
Desserts and such
These looked good too.
Olive ciabatta
I got this on the house since it was the soft opening.
Baguette blanche
They threw this in for free as well. Is it really OK to be this generous..
Inside
The chef was there too..
Rooftop
Nice atmosphere.
Seoul skyline
There’s nowhere to eat up on the rooftop, but the view is really great.
Namsan view
You get a good look at Namsan too.
Packaging
They pack the bread in a zipper bag, and since I always portion out bread into zipper bags and keep it in the freezer anyway, I was really grateful for this. The bread itself seems to be among the best in Korea.
Multigrain bread
The multigrain bread was delicious too. They seem to focus mainly on sandwich breads.
Tigré
This was top-notch as well. Pretty much anything you grab here is delicious, and the baguettes especially are excellent. It sounds like the original Taffin will be run as a sandwich specialist, and that side of things should be good too.
