BAKE and Hugo & Victor at Lotte Department Store

Every department store is waging a dessert war these days. Hyundai was on a serious roll for a while, and now Lotte has pulled off something big too: they’ve brought in BAKE, hugely popular in Japan, and Hugo & Victor, a big name in France. Since both already have shops in Japan, bringing them to Korea probably wasn’t that hard, but either way the department stores deserve much of the credit for how quickly Korea’s dessert scene has leveled up.

BAKE

They feel a bit pricey for their size, but one bite and it makes sense. A must-visit. Word has it the lines are already very long.

Hugo & Victor

Well… they look great just sitting there.

Financier

They were offering samples of the financier, and it was a whole new world, unlike anything I’d had in Korea. So good I bought a whole box.

Tart

The cakes are delicious too. It’s always a joy when global desserts land in Korea. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
