Second Visit to Cheung Kee Noodle House, Mugyo-dong

Lately I have been hosting foodie meetups myself more and more, and as a result I end up going to gatherings here and there. I have been blogging for close to ten years, but I had hardly ever visited the same place this many times. Well, the food is good and it is a chance to get together with fun foodie friends, so there is nothing wrong with that, but it is also true that posting similar dishes over and over makes the blog boring. If someone said I had lost my beginner’s spirit as a blogger, I would have no comeback. I have some ideas about how to improve things, but putting them into practice will take a while. Please bear with the dull content for the time being.

Peanuts

chungli again

Seasoned sweet and tangy, they work as a side dish and also as a light snack with drinks.

Cucumber

chungli again

This too made a nice nibble before the food arrived.

Cantonese-style fried chicken

chungli again

It was stir-fried nicely, but there was not much meat on the chicken. Maybe asking Cantonese chefs for a chicken dish was the problem.

Lobster with garlic chips

chungli again

Hmm.. the lobster did not have that much meat this time. Last time the flesh was plump and springy, so it was quite a contrast.

Stir-fried gai lan with garlic

chungli again

Stir-fried greens are the crown jewel of Chinese cooking~ Delicious as always.

Cantonese-style steamed fish

chungli again

The steamed fish was cooked superbly, much like last time. I piled it on rice and wolfed it down.

Fried rice

chungli again

As always, the fried rice had that wok-fire smokiness.

Ginger and scallion lobster, on the house

chungli again

The owner sent it out on the house, saying it is the house specialty. True to its name it tasted wonderful, but again there was a bit less meat than last time.

Wonton noodles, small

chungli again

Following the principle of drinks first, noodles after, there was no way I could skip the noodles.

Twisted doughnuts from Shinbalwon

chungli again

Someone back from a trip to Busan brought these along; a little hard, but perfectly edible.

Hagwonjeon

chungli again

A bread from OPS, a famous Busan bakery, apparently meant as a snack for kids. It is sweet, so really just kids’ snack territory.. It reminded me of moist breads like this I ate long ago.

The desserts I brought

chungli again

Max Brenner chocolates and Jiichiro’s baumkuchen. The moist baumkuchen is delicious, but eaten after a big meal it felt a bit heavy. The chocolate was as good as ever. If only it were cheaper I would buy it in bulk, though who knows whether I will get the chance again..
