A friend was visiting from New York, so we dropped by Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai. Somewhere near home would have been fine too, but eating in Yeonnam-dong makes it easy to move on to a second round afterwards.

Som tam and gai yang

With just two of you, it’s hard to try much variety here. And since I was with a friend who’d come a long way, we stuck mostly to the best-sellers. The gai yang is what I always order, and it’s as excellent as ever.

Tod mun goong

Fried patties of minced pork and shrimp. Further explanation is unnecessary.

Kuay teow neua toon

This was my first time trying this noodle dish, and it had a whiff of herbal medicine and an interesting flavour. It felt like a hangover cure the moment I ate it, and I really liked it. But apparently it’s now being dropped from the Tuk Tuk Noodle Thai menu and will only be served at a new noodle shop they’re opening. It sounds like it will open soon, so I’ll have to go check it out. I hope the lines won’t be as long as at Tuk Tuk, but with noodles the turnover should be quick, so probably nothing to worry about.
