In the middle of a full-on sundaeguk shop tour, I heard there was a famous sundae gukbap place near my house too, so I stopped by.
The front entrance
It sits roughly halfway between Samseong Station and Seolleung Station. I went on a Saturday, so there was hardly anyone there, but apparently on weekdays the office workers queue up.
The table setting
Whichever sundae gukbap place you go to, much the same spread comes out, but there is a rule: the good places have tasty banchan and the bad places have dull banchan too.
The gukbap
What I like is a soup boiling hot, rice served on the side, blood sundae in the bowl, and dadaegi I can stir in to my own taste – and this place was the exact opposite on every count. The sundaeguk itself was good, mind you: a rich broth with plenty of meat in it. You could fairly call it one of the great sundaeguk places, but I can’t see myself going back. The trouble with getting older is that your palate turns fussy. I worry the list of things I won’t eat is only going to get longer. Life is so hard..
