I’ve got loads of posts I want to get up quickly, but with drinking sessions and work every single day it’s been really hard to find time. I just need to set aside one day, but that one day never comes. After a night of drinking I’m basically knocked out the next day, so I’m really worn out, but I guess this is just what a normal year-end looks like in Korea. (I really need to go easy on the drinking from now on.)
Anyway, I went to Miro Sikdang, which has recently become famous in Hongdae for being delicious. I’d call it a Korean-food pub. It’s close to Hapjeong Station. The food was great, of course, but I was surprised by how good the atmosphere was.
Max on tap
The head was so smooth that I could hardly believe it was Max draft. You only get foam like this when the taps are looked after properly. Tastes good, priced well.. drinkers will love it.
Salad
A simple dish, but they nailed the key points.
Seafood pajeon
One of the better-reviewed dishes here, and it’s loaded with ingredients, so it works both as a drinking snack and with rice. It disappeared in no time.
Spicy whelk and Spam salad
As expected, this is the house signature dish. There were only two of us, so we only managed to order the signature dishes, but that’s enough to judge the level of a place. Whelk and Spam salad isn’t a difficult dish, but made with a recipe that’s true to its ingredients, there’s no way it could taste bad.
Finished the Max and ordered a Hwayo cocktail.
Hwayo (41%) really is a delicious spirit. I don’t know if this is the house’s own recipe, but it tastes even better as a clean-style cocktail. Most importantly, it goes really well with Korean-style food. I think this is exactly the kind of place drinkers are looking for.
Front entrance
It’s such a popular place that it’s always packed. I think I waited about 20 minutes. Coming late in the evening might be okay, I thought. What struck me was the high proportion of women among the customers, which actually worried me a bit (it’s not a café, after all, and business only goes well when customers order plenty of food and drink..). Next time I’ll come with close friends.
