J.S. Burger in Shinjuku

I’ve barely been able to go out to good restaurants lately, and it’s a bit of a letdown even to me. Work is so busy that I just don’t have time to head out anywhere far for a meal. The only times I go out are pretty much for work. It looks like September is going to stay like this. But the work I’m doing now is the kind I always wanted to do, so I’m not complaining.

That day, too, I had lunch for work with my contact person at J.S. Burger in Shinjuku. For the record, this place was his pick.

Grapefruit juice and iced tea

They come with the 1,400-yen burger set. A bit pricey… but maybe because it was the weekend, people were lining up to eat here. Seriously…

My order: an avocado burger with a pineapple topping

The portion is decent, but I don’t think burgers and avocado really go together. Isn’t avocado best eaten with soy sauce… The pineapple was tasty. Still, it was weaker than the one I had at Kua ‘Aina before. The fries were ordinary too.

My contact’s order: the autumn special pumpkin burger

Chicken basket

The prices aren’t cheap and the food is only at this level, yet the place is packed to bursting, and I honestly can’t make sense of it. I really wonder whether Japanese people have always been this crazy about burgers… The one real plus of this place is that there are laptops set up so you can get online. But even that is hard to actually use on weekends because it’s so crowded.

Annoyed that I hadn’t made it to a good restaurant that day, I went a bit further afield the next day to find one, but as luck would have it, it was their regular day off. I don’t have any more time to go around this week… Around the weekend or maybe next week, I’ll plan things out properly and take a trip somewhere worthwhile.
