Shodai Keisuke, a Ramen Shop at Shinatatsu in Shinagawa

This is another one of Tokyo’s famous ramen shops. It became popular with a very unusual concept: kuro miso (black miso) ramen. It shows up on TV and in magazines all the time. Recently they also opened Nidaime Keisuke, and made that a success too. I was curious whether the taste lived up to the popularity, so I went to try it.
The sign

The design is unusual too.
This is the shop’s signature dish, the kuro miso ramen.

With its black soup it doesn’t look all that appetizing, but despite appearances it’s a well-made ramen. It’s very different from ordinary miso ramen, too. It’s sweetish, and it actually made me think it might be a ramen built on the concept of Korean jajangmyeon.
The noodles

It’s tasty, but since it’s so similar to Korean jajangmyeon, it’s a bit hard for me to recommend. I can see why it caught on in Japan, though. I should try the Nidaime shop next.
