This is the place that got recommended to me as a good izakaya for an evening out in Okinawa. It’s near the hotel I stayed at, and if you show your hotel key card they knock half off the food right there on the spot. No way I was passing up a deal like that ^_^
The complimentary starter: edamame.
I order Orion beer, Okinawa’s famous local brew.
Tasty. The foam is nice and smooth, too.. Maybe it tasted even better because it’s the local beer.
Fried mimiga
Mimiga is what they call pig’s ear here. It’s nice and chewy, perfect with beer.
Goya champuru
This is Okinawa’s signature dish: stir-fried goya, a slightly bitter vegetable. You barely notice the bitterness at all, and it’s really good.
Assorted sashimi
Pretty decent freshness.
A special Okinawan tofu dish
If I remember right, it was tofu steeped in awamori. Pretty color, but the taste was a bit… odd. Not something I’d want to eat again, let’s say..
Somen champuru
Again, great with beer.
Agu shabu salad
Agu is the brand name of Okinawa’s black pork. It was good, but it was drowning in dressing.
A traditional Okinawan dish whose name I can’t quite remember
Er.. nothing special. Salads seem to be this place’s weak spot.
Overall they make good food here. And on top of that, I ate until I was stuffed and paid just 4,000 yen. Ridiculously cheap. Okinawa keeps growing on me.
