I wandered around downtown for a bit.
Qu’il fait bon
Qu’il fait bon is a dessert shop that actually started out in Shizuoka. I popped in while passing by, and the seasonal tart is 1,300 yen a slice now? I had no idea prices had gone up this much. Sure, it’s probably what it takes to keep the quality up with the yen this weak, but at that price it’s a bit much to have every season. The good old days.
Dubai chewy cookies
Turns out they sell them in Japan too. We’re now in an era where a craze that started in Korea makes its way over to Japan.
Nanaya by Marushichi Seicha
This place is famous for its tea, so there was a long line… but it was hot that day and I just wanted to get inside somewhere fast, so I couldn’t face queuing. I settled for a photo. With a line like that, it’s surely good.
Mad clown
No idea why on earth they put this up… anyway, it was so odd I had to take a picture.
Cherry Beans Cafe
Cherry Beans is pretty well known. It shows up regularly on Shizuoka TV and runs a bunch of different shops. You could call it a local favorite.
Inside
There are big tables like this. And it’s not like the drinks are expensive either, so I couldn’t help wondering if the owners are rich from real estate.
Inside
It reminded me of Caffe Bene… hard to believe there’s a place with such roomy, comfy seating right in the middle of downtown.
Homemade lemonade and strawberry lemon soda
The lemonade is seriously good. They put in loads of lemon, so the sourness is the real deal. For this price, it’s more than worth it. The strawberry one, by contrast, tasted kind of artificial, so I wasn’t that happy with it.
Ginger ale
This one was just okay too. Lemonade is the clear winner at this place.
French fries
The fries themselves are good, but they’re dusted with a secret spice blend. Which made them seriously hard to stop eating. Shizuoka somehow seems to be good at this kind of seasoning. Shizuoka oden is really only as good as it is because of the powder sprinkled on top, after all…
Interior
Nice and clean.
Food menu
They have burgers and pizza, so you can use it for plenty more than just coffee.
Drink menu
Lots of choice here too.
After this visit I get why it’s so popular in Shizuoka. I have a feeling I’ll drop by again next time I’m passing through. That’s how much I liked it.
