Gohyangok, a sundaeguk place in Ilsan

I heard there was a good sundaeguk place in Ilsan, so off I went. It is called Gohyangok, and it turns out it is a Blue Ribbon restaurant.

The set

Got to have a drink, right?

Side dishes

Clean and tidy. A spread like this is pretty good going.

Spicy sundaeguk

It is seriously tasty, but a little too spicy for me. So I was thinking it might be better to get the regular sundaeguk and stir in just a bit of dadaegi (spicy seasoning paste), but then the owner came over and told me that ordering the spicy sundaeguk without the heat tastes better. Apparently they are not the same sundaeguk at all..

Suyuk (boiled pork slices)

This suyuk is definitely optimized for drinking soju. Perfect for a glass or two. I liked it more than the spicy sundaeguk.

Beondegi (silkworm pupae)

After a good first round we moved on to the second. We went to a raw fish place, but it was an ordinary spot so I have no record of it.

Sashimi

Just ordinary.

Maeuntang (spicy fish stew)

Another one for the soju

Fried snacks

These days a lot of raw fish places put out fried snacks like a Japanese restaurant would.. It is a bit of a step down from what you get in Japan, but by this point in the drinking you cannot really taste anything anyway.. so I just ate it without thinking.
