I’ve been to Yeoksam pretty often, but I had no idea a place like this existed.
Gohyang Maeul, on the second floor
It had never once occurred to me to go up to the second floor..
The entrance
The smell of cheonggukjang hits you right at the entrance. A funk this powerful.. there’s no way it isn’t good..
The banchan
All of them are good. The eori guljeot (spicy salted oysters) they brought out on the house was really good, but it isn’t in the photo.
Inside
They must get so many customers – the amount of banchan prep going on is no joke.
The menu
The prices are reasonable for having a drink, too.
Jeyuk bossam
The pork was cooked soft with no off-flavors, so it was really good. Order this and they bring you eori guljeot, and the oysters were so plump that I enjoyed every bite.
Seafood pajeon
Good size, good flavor.
Cheonggukjang
This is the real deal. It’s been a while since I’ve had cheonggukjang made properly like this. One thing worries me though – there were people coming in to eat in suits.. makes me wonder how the rest of their day at the office goes..
Miyeokguk (seaweed soup)
I think this one was on the house.
Nakji bokkeum (stir-fried octopus)
This was so good – when you use ingredients this fresh, it can’t not taste good.. And it goes easy on an old guy’s stomach, since the seasoning isn’t harsh. I was more than satisfied..
With anju this good, there was no way not to have a drink in the middle of the day.. some days just turn out like that..
