There’s a place in Yeonhui-dong called Ae, and I heard the owner’s skills are quite extraordinary. So, I decided to check it out.
Such a cozy space
Since it’s run by two people, the space isn’t that large.
The workspace
Having the food prepared right in front of me seems to make the drinks taste even better…
Takeru Grande
“Pure Malt” here means it’s a blend of malt whiskies from Miyagikyo and Yoichi. I bought it because I heard this batch turned out great, and it really is delicious. The balance is excellent, and it tastes sweet when served on the rocks… It feels like a textbook example of a blended malt. While the value for money is great, it lacks a bit of that “premium” feel… I suppose that’s the fate of an NV bottle.
Steamed Egg
Served as the otoshi.
Starting off with a Kaku-bin Highball…
Perfectly mixed.
Assorted Sashimi
The ultimate drinking snack.
Fried Oysters with Tartar Sauce
Oysters in season are bound to be delicious, and they come with a proper tartar sauce. This is exactly how you enjoy drinks.
Isobe Maki
Since it’s not heavy on carbs, it’s a great snack…
Gunsan-style Braised Pollack
A regular at the shop took the lead and ordered the best possible menu for us. Eating this helped me recover enough to drink some more…
Subuta (Sweet and Sour Pork)
It feels like ordering Tangsuyuk at a Maze. I can’t believe they’re this good at frying too…
Yamazaki
I was a bit disappointed with this one. Setting aside the strong peat scent, it lacked the characteristic Yamazaki profile. The Koge had a decent balance. Well, there’s a big price difference, and since this was the third batch, I guess a slight drop in quality is inevitable. I should have bought the first batch…
Eel
When served like this, it’s just too delicious… I had a great meal.
One more drink at Barolo
We moved to a second spot for a quick drink. With great food, great drinks, and great company, it was a perfect gathering.
