I heard a tiny bakery had opened in Kosai, so I went to check it out.
The place
Apparently this is a shio-pan (salt bread) specialty shop. Turns out it’s not just a Korean craze; places like this are popping up in Japan too.
Today’s breads
They had all kinds of shio-pan in the works. They’re on the small side, and the prices are pretty reasonable too.
Getting ready inside
I got there before opening, and they were right in the middle of the rush.
There was even a line
It seems to be quite popular. Shio-pan is delicious, after all.
The surroundings
The weather was lovely.
Shio-pan
It’s exactly the taste we all know. With butter and salt in there it can’t help but be tasty, but honestly, I think the Korean shio-pan is a bit better.
Mentaiko shio-pan
That said, the filled ones like this are pretty good in their own way.
Cream shio-pan
The cream-filled one in particular was really good. Cream and shio-pan seem to go well together.
Anko butter shio-pan
This one was just okay. The cream-filled one is tasty and there are lots of fun breads, so I think it’s worth stopping by now and then. But if all you care about is the shio-pan itself, Korea does it a little better.
