Delhi was just a layover, and with a 3 a.m. departure the next day there honestly wasn’t much to do once I got to the hotel.. Still, 3 in the morning wasn’t that hard a time to get up thanks to the time difference, but it did mean going to bed early and getting up early, so I decided to just grab a quick dinner and call it a night.

Being able to stay at a pretty decent hotel for the price of a cheap business hotel is one of the perks of travelling somewhere like India, I think.

Kingfisher seems to be the standard, and it had a bit of a honey note and tasted great. That’s India for you.. I suppose being such a big country means consumer goods like this are good quality.

There were all kinds of curries, but they’re basically all in a stew-like state, so they don’t photograph well.

I took a little of everything, and the curry in its homeland really is different. The spices feel so alive.. The downside is that with spices this strong, the flavour of the base ingredients gets hidden, so honestly I couldn’t tell whether the ingredients themselves were good or not. But if you think of that as the Indian style, it makes sense. If Japanese cuisine tries to bring out the natural flavour of the ingredients as much as possible, Indian cuisine is the opposite extreme, and doing that well is no easy thing either.

Actually, the skewers were better than I expected. The ingredients themselves are so-so, but they’re well coated in sauce and grilled nicely, perfect with a drink.. If I hadn’t had a flight the next day, another drink or two would have been nice. Pity..

Anyway, having eaten well right through to dessert, I went back to the room and got to sleep quickly.

I had to leave at 3 a.m., but if you have a breakfast voucher, the hotel will pack up a breakfast like this for you if you ask. Great service.
