Kobe’s Kitano Hotel is famous for something like “the world’s best breakfast”… It’s so famous that getting a hotel reservation isn’t easy… And I also find myself wondering just how good a breakfast can really be… Anyway… I haven’t had the chance to stay there yet, but I do end up dropping by the dessert shop right in front of it now and then.
The way there
One side of Kobe is all hills… so climbing up takes a bit of stamina…

Apparently this is what you get… but I’m really not sure it’s that delicious… Anyway, this shop is famous for its jam, so I bought one (there’s jam in the illustration too…). It was a seasonal strawberry jam and cost around 2,000 yen… But it is tasty, I’ll give it that… It has some tartness, and the strawberries keep their shape, so it’s beautiful… With these fancy jams… honestly, I don’t think the taste is all that different from cheaper ones… but simmering them down while keeping the shape like that must take a lot of effort… So I guess 2,000 yen is the price of that kind of beauty… (That said, other brands do make jams in that style… at prices like 1,800 yen or so, though…)
