Aeon, a Big Supermarket in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The truth is, when I come here on a business trip there isn’t all that much to do on the weekend. So I usually end up going to a supermarket to buy gifts to take back to Korea.

Aeon phnom penh.

I spotted it while walking down the street, but I didn’t have time to go in..

On the way

Aeon phnom penh.

Aeon is out on the edge of town, so there isn’t much to see along the way.

Aeon

Aeon phnom penh.

It’s that famous big supermarket chain from Japan. I had no idea it had expanded into Cambodia.

The entrance

Aeon phnom penh.

Doesn’t seem much different from Japan..

A slightly worn-out feel..

Aeon phnom penh.

Compared to Chip Mong it feels a bit more dated, but on the other hand it’s packed with people.

Inside

Aeon phnom penh.

There are electric cars on display.

Bakery

Aeon phnom penh.

It reminds me of Aeon back in Japan.

Inside

Aeon phnom penh.

It feels like the place has been around for a while..

Electric car display..

Then again, I do wonder whether it’s okay to display them this casually..

Apples

Aeon phnom penh.

Feels similar to Japan.

Liquor

Aeon phnom penh.

There’s a wide range of liquor. Looking at it now the prices weren’t cheap, but they even had Guojiao 1573.. Things like this are why it’s worth taking photos in supermarkets.. (Liquor is cheaper at the duty-free shops in Korea.)

Bottles like these

Salmon

Aeon phnom penh.

I didn’t expect it to be sold like this

Vegetables

Fruit

Aeon phnom penh.

Mangoes go for something like 300 to 400 won apiece.

Fruit

Aeon phnom penh.

For people who love fruit, Southeast Asia must feel like heaven.

Watermelon

Aeon phnom penh.

There were a lot of long, oblong watermelons.

They sell rice too.

Pomelo

Aeon phnom penh.

It’s a fruit that looks like a really big mandarin.

There wasn’t much worth buying as a gift, so I ended up getting some dried fruit, though the quality wasn’t that great.. Instead I found something good at a dedicated gift shop, and I’ll put that up in the next post.
