Sapporo is a chain Japanese restaurant. Places like this have private rooms, so they work well for get-togethers and they’re comfortable to eat in. The food, though… well.

Now something that actually feels Japanese turns up. You can order soju too, so it doubles as drinking food.

Sashimi

Nicely aged. The fundamentals are all in place. Considering the price, it comes out about as well as you’d hope.

I suspect they can put a dish like this on the menu because they run it together with the Gyeongbokgung next door. Taste-wise it’s not bad at all, though it is on the sweet side.

Japanese restaurants in Korea seem to serve tempura at the end of the meal.

Never mind the taste, the portion is enormous.

Chirashi sushi

Apparently it comes instead of nigiri, and it’s tasty.

Very Korean.

The finish

Well… if you say you want to eat really good Japanese food, it’s iffy, but it gives you your money’s worth – that, I think, is its strong point.
