Kyoto Station is enormous, and it is packed with all sorts of souvenir shops. I took a good long walk around.

Shinshindo, a long-running Kyoto bakery, seems to be the popular one here.

Looks like onigiri made by Hachidaime Gihey, a famous rice specialist.

551 Horai

Horai — I get a craving for their pork buns every now and then. I missed out on them during my last trip to Osaka, so there was no way I was leaving without a box this time. The line moved faster than I expected, so if you have 20 to 30 minutes to spare before your Shinkansen, you can probably get some.

Annie Hall Bar

Say “Annie Hall” and people these days probably will not know what you mean, but it is a Woody Allen film. I enjoyed it a lot. This bar is not in the station itself but on the ground floor of a hotel, and they have done a rather nice job with the decor. Maetel, from Galaxy Express 999, is hanging right behind it — in its own way, I would call this a bar with some history.

They sell this sort of thing too.

Komamehan

Coated nuts — and the packaging design is lovely.

Taketori Monogatari

Made by a shop called Jouvencelle, and it looks packed with beans and chestnuts. I was tempted, but skipped it this time…

Senbei

Senbei — rice crackers — loaded with beans like these are never a bad idea.

Warabimochi

It looks like slime, but it looked delicious.

Kyoto Animation is the animation studio that burned down in the fire, and they are holding a special exhibition. Such a heartbreaking incident.
