This time I had plenty of time on my hands, so I was able to stop by Kinopio’s Cafe. Normally you have to wait an hour or two, but since I went late I didn’t have to wait all that long, which was nice.

Interior

Kinopio is a mushroom, and sure enough this turns out to be an Italian restaurant themed around mushrooms. The way the world of the game is brought into reality this properly was seriously impressive.

Piranha Plant Caprese

The quality was pretty good. Of course, it’s inside a theme park, so I accept that the food is expensive – but that’s exactly why the quality can’t be allowed to slip too far. On that front the mozzarella was good, the basil sauce was the real thing, the ingredients were fresh, and it was all delicious.

Luigi Burger

The Luigi cap is the highlight, and it makes a nice souvenir too. The taste was decent as well.

? Block Tiramisu

This is the dessert. The design is good on this one too, and the taste is above par.

Super Mushroom Pizza Bowl, a tomato sauce with mushrooms in it

It was unexpectedly tasty – the pizza toppings are inside, and if you dip the bread on top into it, it tastes exactly like pizza.

Mushroom Soup

“Mushroom” does just mean mushroom, but in an Italian restaurant, mushroom naturally has to mean porcini.

Inside

It really was a deep, rich porcini soup. That aroma is lovely.

Honestly, if an ordinary Italian restaurant had put this menu out at this price, my reaction would have been, hmm, a bit pricey? And the quality is just so-so… But when a meal like this comes out in Mario World, I was genuinely moved. Right, this is what mushrooms taste like… I came here to spend money anyway, so if I got to experience a fictional world realized this completely and came away understanding Mario World better, then the cost was not the least bit wasted.
