Things I Bought in November 2023

Just putting up the various things I bought.

Anker battery

Shopping 202311.

I went for a generous capacity, but since the iPhone Pro Max does not drain its battery all that fast.. I hardly ever end up needing it..

Mongshell

Shopping 202311.

It had hallabong cream in it, so I thought it might be decent and gave it a try. The taste is not bad, but the size is genuinely tiny.. it left me wondering why they even use the Mongshell name.

Zojirushi humidifier, 4L

Shopping 202311.

Buying it in Korea costs twice what it does in Japan, but I got it because it runs without a step-down transformer. I am going to use it for a long time anyway, and at 4L the capacity is plenty. Korea also sells all-stainless humidifiers, but the reason I keep coming back around to Zojirushi is that I have used them all this time without a single breakdown. The other humidifiers have not been out that long, and they do not seem all that dependable to me.

Custard Kiri Cream Cheese

Shopping 202311.

The taste was fine, but it feels like the size has shrunk..

Geo Wallet Stand

Shopping 202311.

I bought it because it was billed as a stand that tells you where it is. It does support Find My, but it does not work all that well. What you actually need is to know where you lost it, and instead it just keeps showing the old location.. it feels like I bought something heavy for no reason.. though the weight does make it stable when you use it as a stand..

A cat

Shopping 202311.

Snapped it on my way past.

Brompton clothing

Shopping 202311.

Honestly, whether this really fits Brompton’s vibe is something I am not sure about.. then again, if you ask whether Kodak or Discovery are brands that suit clothing.. I do not know either, but seeing how well it sells, maybe it is my own taste that is the problem.

Salt bread snack

Shopping 202311.

The whole point of salt bread is that it is soft, so making something this hard and then slapping the name salt bread on it feels like a dereliction of duty.

A Blue Archive collab

Shopping 202311.

It seems the number of otaku in Korea has grown a lot too.

The streets of Myeong-dong

Shopping 202311.

It is not much different from how it used to be.. no, if anything it seemed even more crowded.

Nogari chips

Shopping 202311.

Wait, is this not the flavor of the ika-ten squid snacks I used to eat in Japan! is what I thought.. it does not really taste of nogari, or dried young pollack, but it goes well with a drink. It says Cheongyang chili mayo, and yet it is not even spicy.

CASETiFY’s MagSafe charger

Shopping 202311.

I like that it is big and heavy. It does not do fast charging, but fast charging puts out a lot of heat anyway, and given that I keep the phone stuck to it the whole time it would not mean much. It is not exactly cheap, but MagSafe has to be at least this good before it is comfortable to use. Personally I do not need the logo, but the design itself is not bad, so it was a pretty good purchase. They probably run sales around the year-end holidays, so buying at that timing is likely the best move.

A HIOKI tester

Shopping 202311.

Every now and then I need a tester – for instance when I want to know how much life is left in a battery.. – and there was a small one, so I picked one up. It is something I might use once or twice a year at most, but when the yen is cheap you buy these things ahead of time.

Shaver charging cable

Shopping 202311.

Shaver brands like Braun and Panasonic do not give you a USB charging cable. But in fact, if you just have the cable you do not need the dedicated charger at all, and since cables are cheap you can even keep one in every room, plus it cuts down the weight when you travel. I have no idea why they do not sell them, but a third party did, so I bought one. The result is total satisfaction. It comes in handy on business trips. It really makes you feel like the world has gotten better lately.

HHKB Professional Hybrid

Shopping 202311.

A pure white version came out recently, so I gave it a try, and it is not bad. I would happily buy one on a regular basis; the problem is that new models do not come out on a regular basis..

Sunsun Sponge

Shopping 202311.

Sunsun Sponge is famous for lasting a long time and staying hygienic, and having used it, I like it. It is probably the best sponge I have used so far.

Fitbit translucent band

Shopping 202311.

Fitbit does not even seem to be sold in Korea, but using one, I found it good. I went looking for a band that would stay a bit cleaner, and this one took a while to ship too. These days it feels like buying a smartwatch band is harder than buying the smartwatch itself.

Belkin’s 4-port USB-C hub

Shopping 202311.

The iPad has only one USB-C port, so you cannot do anything else while it is drawing power, and other devices, unless they are MacBooks, sometimes run short on USB-C ports too. I bought it for times like that.. but after using it a while it got to be a hassle, so I gave the iPad away to someone and now mostly use a Surface with two USB-C ports.. the iPad really is a bit much.. anyway, I figure having one at home will come in useful someday..

Pot lid

Shopping 202311.

It is stainless, it stands upright, it is transparent, it is light, and it is one-size-fits-all, so I bought it, and it is good. Having one of these when you are cooking in the kitchen is incredibly handy. Japan really is good at things like this.
