Ramen Santa in Hamamatsu

Ramen Santa is a popular ramen shop near Hamamatsu Station. The sign here is yellow, so without even stepping inside I had assumed it must be a tonkotsu specialist, but it turns out it is a traditional shoyu ramen specialist. It has the history to match, and it has been popular for a long time.

The vibe in here

Menya santa.

It is the kind of ramen shop that looks like it would be a hit with students.

Shoyu negi ramen with chashu and ajitama added

Menya santa.

The rich flavor, close to iekei ramen, is what defines it.

The noodles

Menya santa.

The broth is rich, so the noodles slide right down too. It is a taste students would love.

Gyoza

Menya santa.

When you are in Hamamatsu, it has to be gyoza.

The menu here

More people than I expected were adding a stamina chashu-don to their ramen. The “stamina” part seems to come from the egg yolk on top. It also looks generous, and it is good for dunking into the broth, which is probably why. Seeing that the student discount runs from 11 in the morning to 10 at night, I think I understand why this place is so popular.
