Hawthorn Tanghulu in Daerim

Tanghulu originally started out with hawthorn berries, but in Korea what you mostly see for sale are easy-to-find fruits like strawberries. I heard that over in Daerim there is the original hawthorn-berry tanghulu imported from China, so I went to have a look.

Like this..

Sansa tangfuru.

Unwrapping it..

Sansa tangfuru.

Sweet-tart, it tasted just like a thick raspberry jam with apple in it. So this was the real bingtanghulu that shows up in wuxia novels, I thought..

A place like this

Sansa tangfuru.

I take it that “sanja” is “sansa”, the hawthorn. Even if it is frozen, being able to taste the original here in Korea left nothing to be desired.
