Parkkun Hanu, a Chung-Ang University favorite in Heukseok-dong

There are plenty of good restaurants in the world but you can’t get to all of them, and then a friend got in touch, so I ended up visiting Parkkun Hanu.

The front entrance

Well.. there are plenty of Korean BBQ joints with good meat, but what really matters, I think, is whether you’re in the mood for meat and whether the atmosphere is any good. On that count this was a decent spot.

The bottle we brought that day

This place lets you bring in up to two bottles for corkage. They said it was a sweet potato soju made from sweet potatoes roasted first, and the aroma really was tough. Sweet potato soju has its own distinctive aroma and opinions divide on it, but while Japan’s high-end sweet potato shochu actually keeps that aroma fairly restrained, this one was tuned to bring it out at full strength. If you like Japanese sweet potato soju, I think it’s worth a try.

Meat

Meat

Rare cuts and even sirloin, all at good value – we ate well. They seem to have some know-how when it comes to sourcing meat. If you run a neighborhood place on rare cuts like this, there’s no way you wouldn’t be popular.

Doenjang jjigae and ramyun

Drinks first, noodles to finish – perfect. I don’t have much business in Heukseok-dong, but it struck me that it has plenty of good places to eat.
