Asakusaken, a Ramen Shop in Hamamatsu

Asakusaken is a well-known ramen shop in Hamamatsu.

The place

It is not the easiest place to get to, yet it is always full of people. Out in rural Japan everyone gets around by car, so I suspect that as long as the food is good, easy parking matters more than the location does. There were even elderly folks standing in line — everyone here is seriously passionate about their ramen.

Inside

The kitchen is nice and roomy.

The menu

A simple menu of just ramen and gyoza.

Gyoza

It had been a while since my last visit, so naturally I ordered a plate.

Ramen

A traditional shoyu ramen, clean-tasting and delicious. Honestly, I think shoyu ramen may well be the soul food of Japan.

The noodles

Cooked just right, too. People must make the trip out here because it is this good.
