Daemunjeom in Yeongdeungpo has been famous as a great old-school spot for ages. I had eaten there once before, but I couldn’t remember a thing about it, so off I went.
A place like this..
It was packed with people of every age and walk of life. One table had a group-blind-date vibe, another felt like a class reunion, at another a middle-aged salaryman was eating alone, and another looked like a family outing.. A restaurant loved across such a wide range of people is really something.
Ohyang jangyuk
The ohyang jangyuk itself was a little dry, and I’m not sure it beats other places, but eaten together with the shredded vegetables and the jjanseul sauce it turns into the best drinking snack there is. That salty, oddly deep flavour of the jjanseul is something I’d tell anyone to try at least once. I hear the boiled dumplings and the other dishes are good too, so I want to take those on next time.
