Supermarket foods of November 2022

Harugyeongwa (Daily Nut)

Mart 202211

Something I have been mulling over lately is whether premium nuts can work as a drinking snack, and after buying a few and eating them.. it seems they need at least a bit of salt on them to qualify. Eating them plain is surely better for your health, though.

Sundae Sillok

Mart 202211

Pretty tasty. They really do know what they are doing..

Tofu jumbo dumplings (dubu wanggyoja)

Mart 202211

I like tofu to begin with, and these were good.

A donut I bought because someone said it was good

Mart 202211

It is just ordinary, no?

This one was also supposed to be good, so I bought it to mark Pepero Day..

Mart 202211

It is a bit rich and greasy. There was no real reason to go out and buy it..

Hershey’s chocolate, Cookies ‘n’ Mint flavour

Mart 202211

The nice thing about Hershey’s chocolate is that no matter what they rearrange it into, it still tastes like Hershey’s chocolate. Even when it is not good, it at least tastes like Hershey’s. Anyway, it was decent enough.

Sagol kkoma manduguk (mini dumpling soup in beef-bone broth)

Mart 202211

It was just so-so..

I’m DAK

Mart 202211

It is the corn flavour, and this is the one where the savouriness really explodes. It was good enough that I often warmed it in the microwave for a snack.

Chef Kouji’s crispy tonkatsu

Mart 202211

I bought it because it said Chef Kouji, but it turned out to be menchi-katsu, not tonkatsu.. at this point I have to wonder whether it counts as fraud..

Perilla miyeokguk, seaweed soup

Mart 202211

It was fine for a quick, simple meal.

Gunsan jjamppong

Mart 202211

Historically, jjamppong apparently turned red thanks to the ethnic-Chinese merchants of Gunsan.. anyway, it had a nice sharp heat and was pretty good. Regional ramyun holds up just fine too.

Makgeolli Zero..

Mart 202211

Hmm.. it is just so-so..

Peter Luger steak

Mart 202211

Hold on, Peter Luger steak is being sold at Homeplus, and on sale at that??

This is what is inside

Mart 202211

Honestly the meat was really tough and I could not feel a single shred of a connection to Peter Luger, but the sauce is good. I looked it up and Peter Luger sauce is sold separately. My recommendation is to just grill a steak yourself and buy the Peter Luger sauce on its own to pour over it.
