Hokkaido Souvenirs from a Friend

A friend of mine went off to Hokkaido and came back with all kinds of souvenirs for me. There were so many that I thought I’d sort through them here.

Chikuwa Pan

Hokkaido omiyage

Chikuwa is basically a fish cake, the sort of thing you get in oden — so, oden inside a bread roll? I wondered what on earth that would taste like, but it turns out there is more than just chikuwa in there; with all the other fillings mixed in it ends up tasting like a mandu or a steamed bun. Seems like a decent thing to eat as an actual meal.

Choco Banana Cream Bun

Hokkaido omiyage

Well… it is Hokkaido-only, but it was just so-so…

The Rest

Hokkaido omiyage

There were far too many, so here they all are at once.

Candy

Hokkaido omiyage

The tin in the middle is candy, and each piece has a different liqueur inside. They taste great, but there is not much of it…

The Contents

Hokkaido omiyage

As omiyage go, I’d say they’re pretty good.
