Tokachi butadon
Sugary and crumbly, so not great. Someday I really should go to Hokkaido and eat a proper butadon…
Rich chueotang (loach soup)
Just so-so..
Jaembaeok
The frozen version is far closer to eating it at the restaurant than the HMR one is.
Whisky and Me
Well, a life story written by the person who lived it is bound to leave a lot out. You only write the parts that flatter you.. Even so, I did get at least a little sense of a drinker’s stance. Things like: if you’re going to drink strong liquor often, cut it with water..
Glen Elgin 1995
A whisky I bought a while back, and the nose on it is really lovely.
Hold Me’s ginger syrup
Mixed into milk it tastes genuinely classy. I drank an awful lot of it after I came down with covid.
Tefal wok
In the end Tefal is just the easiest thing to cook with..
Hold Me’s vanilla bean syrup
This one is sweet and rich, so it would go well with coffee, except I hardly ever drink coffee.. why did I buy it? is what I keep thinking..
Canned gyutan
This one is seriously good. The beef tongue is quality and the demi-glace sauce is the real deal. It costs a bit, but if you spot one it’s worth stocking up.
Canned smoked oysters
Ate it as a drinking snack.
Pate Iberico
A good-value pate. Not mind-blowingly delicious, but it should be nice with wine..
Rainier cherries
Hmm.. maybe it’s because these aren’t the Costco Rainier cherries, or maybe because Rainier cherries get imported in such huge volumes now, but they aren’t as good as they used to be.
Bibigo vegetable wanggyoja
Surprisingly decent. Frozen food is king when you’re in a hurry, so I always keep some in stock.
