I’m rather fond of budae jjigae, and Daewoo Budae Jjigae is a place with some real history to it.. but in the end, going out for budae jjigae on my own felt like a bit much, so I’d never actually been. Then COVID came along, I found out they do takeout, and I could go far more casually than I ever did before COVID.
The place
Still as popular as ever.
What comes in it
Tipped into the pot, it looks like this
It’s a mild, tasty budae jjigae and there’s plenty of it. It really is very good, but cooking it at home is different from the restaurant: instead of keeping it bubbling away at the table, you boil it once in the kitchen and ladle it out, and maybe that’s why you need to go a little lighter on the broth than the instructions say. I also should have picked up an extra portion of noodles on the side, which is a small regret. Well, next time I should be able to do it perfectly.
