A French place called Honnêtes Gens has opened in Cheongdam, and the reviews were good, so I went along. These days I feel like I mostly go to places I can put on Instagram..
The entrance
Finding the entrance is not easy. It sits on the opposite side of the stairs, so you cannot see it on the way down.. that must be the concept these days..
Inside
It was pretty much full.
The menu
The prices are very reasonable. This is exactly why a table is hard to get.
Champagne
A glass that looks like it came straight out of Gatsby. The concept here really does seem to be early-twentieth-century America. One glass on its own is enough to set a party mood.
Oysters
Bottarga
This was not on the regular menu, it came out on the house.. and it was good..
Brioche
Serving bread generously seems to be the trend these days.
Tartare
Artistically pretty. It seems to be the signature of this place: the portions are big, it tastes good, and it looks good on Instagram.
Green papaya salad
Whatever you order the portion is no joke, so you have to pace yourself.
Bahn mi
This one was good too..
Lamb chop
Tendons, oxtail
I was so grateful that they piled the cilantro on. I love cilantro, and it takes about this much to satisfy me, but nowhere else has ever given me anywhere near this amount.
Beef striploin, burrata
Dessert
Every dish had volume, looked beautiful and tasted good, to the point where no description of the flavor is really needed. No wonder reservations are hard to come by.
