A round-up of the various things I ate at home.
Bread from Ginza Nishikawa
There are so many good bakeries in Japan these days that I wonder whether one more really makes any difference..
Toasted..
However many famous bakeries there are, well.. expensive bread is delicious..
Zopf’s curry bread
Zopf is.. a hugely famous bakery in Matsudo, and they’ve put their own name on a curry bread specialty shop in Tokyo Station.
Curry bread like this
This is something I’ve always felt whenever I eat curry bread.. curry bread doesn’t need to be shaped like a rugby ball. A flat one is easier to fry and better for enjoying the curry. I think it’s impressive that they innovated on the tradition and got a better result out of it, but I also suspect it would have been hard to pull off if it hadn’t been Zopf. It looks very different from the curry bread people picture in their heads.
Omurice
I think it was omurice from a neighbourhood Western-style restaurant.
This one too..
I think it wasn’t bad..
Pizza
This one was so-so as well..
A burger from the 3rd burger
I got it as takeaway. Here’s the problem.. at this level it is tasty enough.. but now that Uber Eats has become part of daily life, a good place a bit further away ends up competing with the shop right next door. Merely not bad doesn’t cut it any more..
A glasses cloth..
I ended up uploading this by mistake.. but since there’s nowhere else to put it, let me explain: masks have had my glasses fogging up constantly lately, so I bought an anti-fog glasses cloth. The basic principle behind anti-fogging is.. apparently it works with a surfactant. It’s the same ingredient as the dish soap you’d use at the sink.. and if you spread it evenly over the lenses, the mist runs off instead of clinging to them. So these days I carry an anti-fog kit with me wherever I go.. which is going to be the normal thing to do until covid is over, I suppose..
