Riding in Yangpyeong

I’ve been going all over the place by bike, and this time I thought I’d push out to the eastern limit.

Paldang Bridge

Crossing this bridge is what makes it feel like I’ve finally left Seoul.

When I came out to Dumulmeori before, I assumed Dumulmeori was the end of the bike path. Turns out it wasn’t. There’s a bike path near Dumulmeori that runs around behind Yangsu Station, and I’d simply never spotted it. Riding on my own, I keep ending up as the only one who doesn’t know what everyone else knows. Same thing happened at Haengju Sanseong..

Scenery

Lovely weather. There was plenty of great scenery along the way, but I can’t photograph all of it while pedalling, so I had no choice but to skip most of it.

Wonjo Yangpyeong Haejangguk, reached after a hard ride

Yangpyeong riding

I searched around for a haejangguk place in Yangpyeong, and this one seemed to have the best reviews. There’s also Sinnae Yangpyeong Haejangguk in Seoul, but I’ve had that one in Seoul already, so today it was the original..

The spread

Quite a few people were coming in for takeout, too..

Haejangguk

It looks great to begin with.. and the taste beats expectations as well. The broth is clean and refreshing, and it’s loaded with meat.

The chunky bits

If you like this style of haejangguk, this is a taste you have to try at least once. I looked around for something else to eat now that I’d come all the way to Yangpyeong, but nothing really grabbed me, so I decided to head back. And by then night had fallen..

Night riding..

Yangpyeong riding

I rode the roughly 100 km home through the night.. and the path is in really good shape. Street lights the whole way, too. I had no idea Korea was such a good country for cycling. As far as I know the bike path is well built up to Yangpyeong and beyond that you have to ride on the road, but even just getting to Yangpyeong is pretty tough.. so for a while I think I’ll keep working the area around Yangpyeong.
