Jin Bibim-myeon

Apparently it is popular for packing in 20% more, but it was not to my taste. These days I only eat the milder bibim-myeon.

This one was truly the worst.

Potato makes up less than 60% and yet it calls itself real fresh potato, which is close to fraud.. and as for the truffle content, how many zeros are there after the decimal point.. The bigger problem is that this is a Homeplus own brand. Putting something like this out has to hurt the image badly, so you have to hand it to Homeplus for the nerve.

Diget

I had heard that well-stored Diget lasts for years regardless of the expiry date, so I bought some as emergency rations for the covid era, and then ate the lot straight away as a drinking snack..

Potato Chip, kimchi sabalmyeon flavor

This is surprisingly good. The sourness of the kimchi would make it a fine snack with soju.

The Chapaguri cup that has finally arrived

A bit spicy.. and really, Chapaguri needs meat in it.. eaten plain it does nothing for me..

Oksusu-myeon, corn noodles

Nothing much to it..

Bonggol-ramyeon (Vongole Ramen)

I would go so far as to call it the ramyeon of the year: the soup tastes properly done and the noodles are good too.

The level of execution

Even making it myself, getting this kind of flavor would not be easy. I thought about buying a few more, but I could not find them anywhere.

Jin Air cup ramyeon

I have no idea why a product like this gets made.. it is neither bad nor good, just an ordinary ramyeon. I doubt I will buy it again..

Bugeoguk ramyeon, dried pollack soup

It really does taste of bugeoguk.. it would be good for a hangover.

Parae tang-myeon, green laver noodle soup

It looks grotesque, but it was perfectly edible.

The noodles are thick, so it is a different genre from Paldo Bibim-myeon.

Yogoe Ramyeon (Wicked Ramen), vongole flavor

Vongole seems to suit ramyeon well. Quite edible.

Yogoe Ramyeon, naengcho-myeon flavor

It tastes exactly like Paldo Bibim-myeon with water poured in. A flavor you know well, sold as a new product.. that is how you would have to put it. It made me appreciate how hard product planning is..

Yogoe Ramyeon, cream cream flavor

It tastes similar to cream pasta. The branding is well done, but in the end the flavor is not anything unusual, more an arrangement of a familiar taste. Which is exactly why it goes down easier.

Samyang Ramen Gold

Older ramyeon goes soft easily, so you have to get the timing right, and when you do it is tasty. These days you can boil it roughly and it comes out roughly tasty..

Sesame nurungji tang-myeon

It tastes exactly like Chamkkae Ramyun with nurungji added.

Baked seaweed oatmeal

On Baek Jong-won’s channel, the explanation that oatmeal equals nurungji made me slap my knee. I tried it once as a test, was satisfied, and have kept oatmeal in the house ever since. Just pour in water (or milk) and a meal is ready, which makes me wonder whether there is anything more convenient.

Odongtong with two pieces of kelp

The kelp does not really affect the taste much.. and yet it works as marketing. The flavor is just the usual Odongtong. I am on team Neoguri myself, though..

Yeolmu bibim-myeon, with young radish greens

Until now I had only eaten Paldo, but this bibim-myeon genuinely impressed me. Making it just a little less spicy lets you enjoy bibim-myeon so much more. Since then I have watched Cham PD’s YouTube analysis of bibim-myeon and have been hunting down only the non-spicy ones, and I am very happy about it.

Heart Signal Cheesegetti

Surprisingly edible. Heart Signal itself was not much fun for me.. the panellists’ commentary in particular was truly useless.. but anyway, getting a sense of what young people are thinking about these days.. that part was good..

Heart Signal Jjarabokki

This one is just jjajangmyeon, so there is not much setting it apart from rivals like Chapagetti.
