Oginoya is the place in Karuizawa famous for kamameshi, rice steamed and served in its own little clay pot, and they have branches all over. There’s one in Tokyo too.. anyway, since we’d been out all day and were getting home late, I bought one to have instead of breakfast.
A place like this..
It’s popular. They sell it at convenience stores too, not just here..
Packaging like this
For the price, it feels like they put a lot of care into the packaging.
Side dishes
A slightly imposing lid..
The contents..
It tastes good. And for the price there’s plenty in it. I think it would work fine as an ekiben while travelling. Only.. the container is a bit heavy so it’s a hassle to carry around, and if you don’t actually want a pot like this you have to throw it away, which is a bit of a hassle too.. well.. it’s a traditional institution, so I suppose that’s just how it is..
