Café Recherche in Yamate, Yokohama

I went to the café famous for the savarin that appeared in Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman. It’s not easy to get to, but it’s well worth going out of your way for.

Dagashi.. so, cheap snacks, what we’d call “junk food” in Korea? They sell that kind of stuff too. This neighborhood still has a shop like the old stationery stores that used to sit in front of schools. It was a hot day, so I bought a 50-yen ice cream..

Having places like this even in a residential neighborhood – that’s Japan’s content power, isn’t it..

Savarin

For the details, just watch the drama.. I’ve always liked savarin. So I tried it.. and it was a delicious savarin. The cream balances out the strong alcohol. It’s pretty, too.. Worth Kantaro skipping out of work to come and eat. But it’s not easy to find, so coming here in the middle of a workday seems like a bit of a stretch..

A tasty cake, but nothing particularly distinctive about it.

Chinese restaurant “Kichin”..

Fun name (奇珍, read “Kichin” – it sounds like “kitchen”). It’s right next door, and apparently this place is really famous too. Next time I’ll have to do the two as a set.
