I went with a friend to Sopoong, a hanwoo grill specialist. Fine dining seems to be on the decline lately while premium barbecue places keep multiplying.. But the somewhat famous ones are impossible to book even when you try.. and they’re not cheap either, good grief.. Anyway, Sopoong has a casual vibe for a premium barbecue place, so reservations aren’t hard, it’s said to be decent value for money, and corkage is free, so we went without much hesitation.
The entrance
The place is small, but the interior is nicely done.
The grill
Side dishes
If you want to focus on the hanwoo, simple side dishes are the way to go.
The beef
Nicely grilled
And a glass of wine
It was a fruit bomb: Elderton Command Shiraz. It’s so good that if you ever spot it, grab a bottle. Not sure whether you can get it in Korea though..
Cut up
Another cut
Nicely grilled..
The hanwoo is delicious, but for the price it’s a bit of a shame that it’s gone in a flash. Well, some people probably prefer it that way. Anyway, thanks to my friend I ate well, and in the spirit of “drinks first, noodles after,” we went for naengmyeon as our second stop.
