Pâtisserie L’Authentique

L’Authentique is a cake shop run by a pastry chef who trained at Au Bon Vieux Temps. It’s tucked away in a corner of Saitama, so getting there isn’t easy, but I managed to get my hands on their cakes through Ma Pâtissier, the weekly event our beloved Isetan puts on.

Savarin

It’s soaked through with rum. It really felt like an extension of the Ali Baba at Au Bon Vieux Temps. The flavour is pure Au Bon Vieux Temps, just in a somewhat more modern style.

The second box

The signature cake

Not as heavy as it looks. The level here is high.

This one was just so-so…

l'authentique

I think it tasted a lot like the Snob.

The style was lovely and it tasted great, but since the whole thing carries on the flavours of Au Bon Vieux Temps, there wasn’t much that felt new to someone like me who has eaten so many of their cakes. If you live around Saitama, though, I’d say it’s well worth it.
