Choseian is a soba shop in Tsukiji. It follows the same concept as the other popular Tsukiji spots: the prices are a bit steep, and it’s less about cooking skill than about using good ingredients. Either way, the food is decent.

Cramped, but packed with people. I got takeout that day, so I took the food photos at home.

Uogashi Shokudo

Right next to Choseian there’s a newly built building, a clean market. The inner market is grubby and cramped, so tourists might be better off here. There’s a dining hall on the 3rd floor, so I went in to see what it was about.

Some pretty famous names have set up shop here. Torifuji seemed to be the most popular of the bunch. I had already bought soba that day, so I decided to come back another time.

I had no idea there was a spot with a view this good inside Tsukiji Market. It’s winter and cold, so going up there is a bit much, but once the weather warms up, a meal in a place like this would be nice.

Tempura

The quality of the ingredients is excellent. At 1,500 yen it’s slightly pricey, but this kind of freshness is possible precisely because it’s Tsukiji.

Soba

The soba is decent too. That said, Azumabashi Yabu Soba is far better quality for the same 1,500 yen… but I guess I shouldn’t expect that much.
