Cafe Oxymoron in Futako-Tamagawa

Futako-Tamagawa looks far away, but the train lines are actually well laid out, so it does not take as long as you would think. I made some time on the weekend and went over.

Margaret Howell Cafe

oxymoron

Lately it feels like fashion-brand cafes are popping up everywhere.. is it a trend..

Oxymoron

oxymoron

It sits on the rooftop of the Takashimaya department store. The atmosphere is just fantastic. Oxymoron is apparently a famous cafe from Kamakura, known for its dry curry. The lines at the main shop are said to be much, much longer, but since this is a branch I got in after about 40 minutes of waiting. It works with numbered tickets, so you do not actually stand in line..

The Takashimaya rooftop

oxymoron

You really should visit this place once. Besides Oxymoron there are all sorts of restaurants, and the atmosphere is sooo good.

There are places like this..

oxymoron

And this one is a Starbucks..

oxymoron

Wait around 40 minutes and you end up taking all kinds of photos..

Water

oxymoron

The design of the cups, glasses and dishes really left an impression.

Inside the cafe

oxymoron

It has been a while since I saw a cafe decorated this nicely.. and the fact that it specializes in curry is, how should I put it, rather oxymoronic..

Coffee

oxymoron

It comes in a bowl-like cup, and the taste is excellent.

Lassi

oxymoron

Because I was about to have curry..

Japanese-style keema curry

oxymoron

Part of it was being hungry from the long wait, but it was strangely delicious.

Ethnic soboro curry

oxymoron

This curry was amazing too. The base is similar, but it was a style with strong spices and herbs like coriander.

Pudding

oxymoron

This one was just so-so..

Coffee jelly

oxymoron

It was really pretty.

Dessert

oxymoron

Caramelized walnuts. They give them to you as a little gift, and they make a great snack.

When I went to pay later, I noticed they sell sweets too.

oxymoron

And something I found out..

oxymoron

This place does not use ordinary ingredients for its curry, starting with the rice. It is a variety they call the phantom rice. Only then did I understand why such a plain-looking curry tasted so extraordinary.

Desserts

oxymoron

A shame I was too full to buy any to take home..

The view on the way out

oxymoron

I would go back just for the atmosphere alone.
