When work gets busy I have no time to go out to eat, so I just grab something from a convenience store. Here are the items that turned out to be pretty good.
Morinaga Pino, limited edition
The fruit content is very high. It is billed as a “seductive rich gelato”, and it really does taste like gelato.
Pierre Hermé Ispahan ice cream bar
Well.. it was okay..
Seven Premium ice bar “with the texture of frozen pineapple”
If it is a Seven-Eleven exclusive, you can generally trust it.
Seven-Eleven exclusive Raisin Sand
It is a raisin sandwich cookie benchmarked on Ogawaken’s Raisin Wich. The price is very steep for a convenience store snack (357 yen), but the taste is at specialty-shop level. I am not sure it sells at that price, but I find myself buying it now and then. Taste comes first, after all.
Sugar Butter Tree
It tastes full of butter. It is a very famous sweet to begin with, and now a collaboration with Seven-Eleven has come about.
Frozen mikan
They sell mandarin oranges frozen. It tastes like a mandarin too. Curious.
Glico Bokujo Shibori
In Japan, when the word “rich” (noko) is on the package, it very often really is rich. The way it melts away smoothly was superb.
Imuraya Gold Milk Kintoki
Imuraya is famous for its red bean ice creams. This is a premium ice bar, and it tastes pretty good.
Kouign-amann
They were selling it at the Lawson bakery so I gave it a try; it is passable. For a convenience store, you could not ask for more than this.
Ice Monster Mango Bar
The mango flavor was intense.
Aisu Manju
A short, stout ice cream with red bean paste inside.
Levain crackers
A cracker series from Yamazaki, the bread company (Yamazaki Biscuits). They are plain crackers like Korea’s Ace, but now and then they sell limited editions with something sandwiched inside. The one I bought had Parmesan cheese and roasted onion in it, salty and crisp. Eaten on its own it is a bit intense, but as a snack to go with beer or a highball, I doubt there is anything better.
Your Name cup ramen
I did not actually buy this one, I just took a photo because it was interesting. All sorts of limited editions keep coming out.
