Tonkatsu Aoki in Hamamatsucho

Tonkatsu Aoki is originally a famous shop in Kamata, but it has a branch in Hamamatsucho. I used to live in that neighborhood so I know it well, and this place has a long line from 11 a.m. every single day. I kept wondering why, and then one rainy day I got in line myself.

They say they use SPF pork.

aoki

SPF means antibiotic-free, in other words, it’s fine to eat it rare.

All kinds of salt

aoki

Not sure you really need this many.

Rosu katsu, 1,200 yen

aoki

It came out nicely fried.

And rice and miso soup

aoki

A pretty ordinary set, but…

Look at the fat on that meat…

aoki

I mean… this is what passes for the premium cut at other places. When a tonkatsu like this comes out at this price, of course it’s popular. At Musashiya it would be at least 1,600 yen. Sure, it’s too fatty, but every now and then in life you need meat like this. It might just be the biggest luxury you can buy for 1,200 yen.
