Sakura Suisan in Shinjuku

I was in a meeting in Shinjuku that ran well past dinnertime, so I ducked into the first chain izakaya that caught my eye. Chain or not, the quality isn’t all that bad, and since all sorts of people drink here it’s never boring. Value for money is a bit so-so, but it’s not an expensive place either.

Salad

True to chain form, no love went into this. Might even be store-bought.

Beer

Didn’t even bother framing the shot..

Sashimi

Anywhere in Japan the freshness is at least this good. If a place can’t manage this much, it should just close up..

Shishamo

Decent enough.

Sushi

Figured I needed some carbs, so I ordered this. Taste was so-so too..

Aji (horse mackerel)

Perfect drinking food.

Rainbow Bridge seen from Odaiba

The meeting that day went reasonably well. It feels a little surreal to be doing business again with a childhood friend. Glad the whole world isn’t like Misaeng, the cutthroat Korean office drama. Life is about helping each other out, after all.

Picked up a Tsuta cup ramen as a hangover cure.

Roughly like this..

Hmm.. not good at all.. There’s a huge gap between a good cup ramen and a bad one, and it seems even wider when the original is hard to copy. Lesson learned: don’t buy on name value alone.
