Daddy Seoul, a Bar on Wausan in Hongdae

Daddy Seoul is the second branch of Angel’s Share in Yeonnam-dong. Second branch or not, the menu and the atmosphere have apparently changed completely, so I was curious how and hurried over to see.

The entrance..

..is not this, actually. It is just a sign that looks like an entrance. The bar itself is down in the basement.

The real entrance

The design is really modern, is it not. Looks like the work of a talented designer.

Cocktail

I do not really remember what I ordered, but the first glass was not quite the flavor I was after..

Anyway, the atmosphere is nice, and thanks to the location there always seems to be a seat free. The biggest problem is that climbing up the hill for round two is hard work, but you can take a taxi, and you can also rent out the whole place for a party, so it can be used in all sorts of ways.

Hamburg steak

I had heard rumors that the hamburg steak was good, and they really do it well. It would be fine to come here for a late-night meal too. I heard the owner of Miro Sikdang helped develop the menu.

1976 vintage cognac

This is Paul Giraud’s Cuvée Spéciale. 1976 was apparently the year Paul Giraud first started selling cognac under his own name. To mark it, since 2013 they have been releasing the cognac made that year one bottle at a time. The 500 ml size is a bit of a cheat, but even allowing for that it is not an expensive price. Once opened, it was not heavy like a typical cognac but very light, with a scent of orange. A 40-year-old cognac this fresh was a curious experience. When you think about it, age really is not such a big deal. Depending on how it matures, it can turn out fresh or it can go off..

The marrons glacés were good too, and you can tell they put a lot of care into the food.

Tomatoes

The tomatoes were tasty too, and the snacks were good enough that we opened a bottle of cava as well, which turned out to be good value.

Going alone and trying a bit of everything is a little hard, but for two or three people to fly over by taxi and have a drink, it is really good. I will have to keep pushing the “Mi-Dae” course (Miro Sikdang, then Daddy) from here on.
