A building called NEWoMan has opened in Shinjuku. It is right next to Takashimaya at the south exit, and it houses restaurants, cafes, clothing shops, general stores and so on. As you would expect from a brand-new building, there were plenty of shops that made me do a double take. I was in the area anyway, so I dropped in for a bit.
VERVE
It is apparently a coffee shop from Santa Cruz, California, but so many places like this have been moving in lately that I cannot tell what it is like just from the outside.
Blue Bottle
Packed with people. If a place is even a little famous, the line is always long; that is Japan for you.
A bakery
There was one in Oyamadai too. It seems a lot of people who used to bake bread in France have come over. They open because the business is there, I suppose?
LA PATISSERIE DES REVES
The Paris-born dessert shop I only brushed past in Kyoto, to my regret, turned out to have a branch in Tokyo as well. Inside a station building, of all places.. Anyway, it was done up beautifully.
Desserts like these
They are well made, but I had already eaten so many delicious things that day…
choux d’enfer
This place also seems to have come from France, but honestly so many of them have opened that coming over from France is no longer a distinction in itself. Judging by the long line there must have been something tasty, but I just brushed past.
