I kept hearing here and there that Seongsu-dong was the up-and-coming neighbourhood, but the location was awkward and I never made it over. Seochon is awkwardly located too and nothing there really calls to me, so I haven’t been, and whether I ever will is anyone’s guess. Anyway, I heard that a bakery in Seongsu-dong called Mildo (meal°) was supposed to be fantastic, so I carved out time I didn’t have and went.
This is roughly what the area looks like.
Take the Bundang Line and get off at Seoul Forest Station. From the outside it looks like an ordinary residential neighbourhood, but there’s quite a lot going on.

Oh… that rich buttery aroma… it was the best. I never expected to come across loaf bread of this calibre in Korea. If it weren’t so far away, I’d be going all the time.
The explanation
Clever name, by the way: mildo means ‘density’ in Korean.
I’d heard Bonanza Bakery was decent too, so I dropped in.
The bread was fine, but it didn’t have the impact of Mildo. Then again, it’s a place that goes for healthy bread, so that’s only natural.
