Merciel on Dalmaji Hill, Haeundae

Merciel could well be called the highlight of a trip to Busan. It’s a place everyone raves about for its amazing view and delicious food. Seoul has plenty of places that cook just as well, but the view was something to look forward to. So I put it on the itinerary.

I was stunned at how they managed to find such a perfect spot. You can gaze at the endless horizon from your table.

Pizza

You really should order a course here, but for various reasons I just went with a few à la carte dishes. I wondered whether pizza would fit in at a French restaurant, but it was really good.

Haeundae salad

Nothing lacking in either portion or flavor.

Pumpkin soup

Bolognese pasta

Not exactly a French menu, but everything was delicious and I left satisfied. I’m promising myself to do the course next time.

Should have shot this as a panorama

On the way back I walked down Dalmaji Hill.

I didn’t know where to go, so I skipped it, bought an assortment of fish cakes at Samjin Eomuk and headed home. With the KTX, Busan is right around the corner. It has gourmet food and travel spots you can hardly enjoy anywhere else in the country, so I’d say it’s ideal for a short trip.
