Italian Restaurant Cucciolo, Haebangchon

Cucciolo in Haebangchon is already wildly popular, and they have even opened a second place, Maremma, in Itaewon, and only now am I getting around to posting this. I went late in the evening and the place was packed. Was this neighbourhood always this crowded? I think this qualifies as a new discovery in Seoul.

The interior

It has the sort of atmosphere you would expect in Cheongdam-dong, I would say. The neighbourhood is still a bit rough around the edges, but this one place is especially upscale.

The portions are a little small and the prices are high, but they use plenty of good ingredients. I can see why it is popular. The wine was easy to choose from too, and it is a nice place to spend money.

I do not remember this one too well..

cucciolo

Chef Kim Ji-woon has had some “gold spoon” controversy (born into money, that is), but I am the kind of person who is happy as long as the food is roughly tasty, so I do not care much. The thing is, the food is good, but the place is so crowded that it is hard to relax and enjoy it. The timing of the dishes felt a bit slow as well. No idea how it is these days, though. I would like to at least try the second place, but I rarely have a reason to go to Itaewon. Is there nobody who will invite me? Then again, who would want to have dinner with a middle-aged guy..
